Pandemica
Created in 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and acknowledging that early indicators suggested that the pandemic began in a wet market - mostly likely from the consumption of a mixture of fluids of pangolin and bats. Pangolin are critically endangered and are widely trafficked for their perceived mythical protective properties.
Each pangolin drawing was created with white pencil crayon on white drafting film as a meditative act, and later the 9 original drawings were transformed into digital replicas, which echo both the repetitive act of breathing as well as virus transmission and adaptation over time.
This collection has not yet been exhibited, however it has been included as part of the Coronavirus Pandemic Creative Response Archive, established by Issues in Science and Technology as part of the CPNAS (Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences).
